The actress cleared the air ahead of the film's release on July 9.
Bad news for you, Black Widow fans!
In a new interview with Fatherly ahead of the film's release on July 9, Scarlett Johansson confirmed the long-standing rumor that this will be her last time playing Natasha Romanoff.
"I have no plans to return as Natasha", she said. "I feel really satisfied with this film. It feels like a great way to go out for this chapter of my Marvel identity."
However, not all hope is lost — the 36-year-old actress revealed that she'd be interested in finding another role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"I would love to be able to continue to collaborate with Marvel in other ways because I think there’s just an incredible wealth of stories there", she shared. "Re-imagining this genre is something that I find very interesting. I think there’s a lot of opportunities to tell these stories in different ways than audiences have come to expect."
Last month, Johansson hinted that she's done playing Black Widow during an interview with Good Morning America, calling the experience "bittersweet".
"I’ve had an incredible decade working with my Marvel family. I’m going to miss not seeing them every 18 months or two years, like those kind of milestones I always really look forward to", she said at the time. "But I feel really proud of this film and I think it’s great to go out on a high note. This movie is so different from any other Marvel film that we’ve done so far, so yeah… like I said, it’s bittersweet."
