The singer also earned a nomination for song of the summer for her latest single, "Rumors".
Congrats, Lizzo! The 33-year-old singer took home the award for best artist x creator collab at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday for a viral TikTok in which she tried a new food trend.
On Monday, Lizzo took to Twitter to react to her VMA win. "Lmaooo oh s--- I won a #VMA… good morning yall", she tweeted.
In the clip, which amassed over 33 million views and 6 million likes, Lizzo tried putting mustard on watermelon, as demonstrated by original creator @yayayayummy. "Welcome to is it bussin or is it disgusting — just kidding I just made that up", the artist teased. "Alright I've been seeing this s--- on the internet."
After her first bite, Lizzo said, "I don't understand." However, she went in for another taste of the bizarre food combo— and then another.
During Sunday's awards ceremony, the three-time Grammy winner was also up for song of the summer for "Rumors", her collaboration with Cardi B, which dropped last month. Unfortunately, the trophy ended up going to BTS and their hit, "Butter."
"Rumors", Lizzo's first release in two years, debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart after being released on August 13. However, the single and its accompanying music video also earned the songstress a lot of online hate.
Last month, Lizzo took to Instagram to address the "fatphobic" and "racist" comments she received following the release of "Rumors". Click here to learn more.
