The film will be Meester's first acting credit since 2019.
Leighton Meester is returning to the silver screen!
According to Variety, the 35-year-old actress will be starring in the upcoming Netflix film The Weekend Away, a thriller based on Sarah Alderson's book by the same name.
The movie takes place in the midst of a weekend getaway in Croatia that goes completely south when a woman is accused of murdering her best friend. As she to clear her name and uncover the truth, her efforts unearth a painful secret.
In addition to Meester, the cast includes Christina Wolfe, Ziad Bakri and Luke Norris.
Kim Farrant is set to take the director's chair, while Alderson will be in charge of writing the screenplay.
"I am so excited to see ‘The Weekend Away’ make it to the screen", the author said in a statement. "To have adapted my own novel makes it even more special, and I am thrilled that Leighton will be bringing this character to life."
The Weekend Away will be Meester's first acting credit since the 2019 crime drama Semper Fi. On the small screen, she starred in the sitcom Single Parents and had guest roles on The Orville and The Last Man on Earth.
