The singer-songwriter also dropped a short film to accompany the album.
Kacey Musgraves is back with a new album! On Friday, the 33-year-old singer dropped her fifth studio album, titled Star-Crossed, which focuses on her healing journey following her divorce from ex-husband Ruston Kelly.
The 47-minute long LP features several previously released songs, such as the titular "Star-Crossed" and "Justified" as well as a slew of never-before-heard tracks like "Good Wife," "Cherry Blosson," "Camera Roll" and "There Is a Light."
In addition, Musgraves released a short film to accompany the anticipated album, which is currently streaming on Paramount+. The country star also served as co-writer and executive producer for Star-Crossed: The Film.
Musgraves opened up about the project, which was first announced in late August, during a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The songstress procedeed to explain the album's title after Colbert noted that it comes from an "interesting, old term".
"You're ill-fated. You are doomed by the stars. You are f---ed celestially", she explained before adding with a laugh, "It's a nice way to put it. There's a rollercoaster of emotion on this record, and the film that we made, I mean, it's kind of a wild ride."
Star-Crossed is Musgrave's first record after finalizing her divorce from Kelly, from whom she split in 2020 after a two-year marriage. The former couple tied the knot in 2017, a little over a year after meeting at a songwriters' showcase in Nashville, Tennessee.
