The singer is one step closer to freedom!
There's some great news regarding Britney Spears' battle to end her 13-year conservatorship! At a court hearing on Wednesday, Judge Brenda Penny suspended the singer's father Jamie as conservator of her estate.
The 39-year-old superstar's attorney, Mathew Rosengart, requested Jamie's immediate removal during the latest hearing. He also asked to appoint a temporary conservator in addition to a 30-day plan for transition to ultimately terminate the conservatorship by the end of the year. John Zabel, a certified public accountant, was chosen as temporary succesor.
Rosengart cited the allegations about her phone and home being bugged that were revealed in the Controlling Britney Spears documentary, which premiered earlier this month, as reason to suspend Jamie. He also brought up the restraining order issued against Jamie in 2019, which stems from an altercation involving Britney's two sons, and his recent bankrupcy filing.
Although Jamie's lawyer tried to appeal, Judge Penny stated that the order isn't appealable and agreed that suspending Britney's father was in her best interest. The request to terminate the songstress' conservatorship, in which she has been since 2008, will be heard on November 12.
The ruling comes months after Britney's bombshell testimony in a June court hearing. At the time, she revealed that she wanted to sue her family. "Ma'am, my dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a huge role in punishing me, ma'am, they should be in jail", she said.
Following the news, Britney's fiancée Sam Asghari —who proposed earlier this month— took to his Instagram Stories to celebrate Jamie's suspension, writing, "Free Britney! Congratulations!!!!!"
