After the 23-year-old tennis player announced her withdrawl from the French Open due to mental health issues, several athletes, politicians and stars showed their support.
Naomi Osaka announced she won't be playing at the French Open, also known as the Roland-Garros, following controversy over her refusal to speak to the press due to mental health issues.
Following her announcement, several stars such as Jameela Jamil, athletes as Serena Williams, and politicians, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, showed their support for the Japanese tennis player.
"Proud of you," wrote the 31-year-old Democrat congresswoman via Twitter.
39-year-old tennis player Serena Williams spoke out during a post-match conference and stated that while she has "thick" skin, "not everyone is the same."
"You just have to let her handle it the way she wants to and the best way she thinks she can. That's the only thing I can say: I think she is doing the best she can," she said.
"Let’s boycott the French open. Naomi is the most exciting player anyway. Imagine punishing someone for having anxiety... in 2021," the 35-year-old actress and activist wrote via Twitter.
