Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney: Here's why!

After the premiere of her Marvel movie 'Black Widow', the 36-year-old superstar sued Disney, and here's why!

Scarlett Johansson, star of Marvel's new movie Black Widow, sued Disney due to a breach of contract due to the simultaneous release in theaters and on the Disney+ digital platform of this production, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

The 36-year-old actress, who filed the complaint in a Los Angeles court, pointed out that the agreement she reached with Disney to shoot the film guaranteed a theatrical release and that her salary was based in large part on the film's box office returns.

The actress, who was also one of the producers of the film, noted that there was "a promise" from Marvel that the film would have a theatrical-only release. "Disney was well aware of this promise, but still instructed Marvel to violate its commitment and instead release the film on Disney+ the same day it hit theaters," the lawsuit states.

"Disney intentionally induced Marvel's breach of contract, without justification, in order to prevent Johansson from realizing the full benefits of her agreement with Marvel," the complaint adds.

Black Widow, which stars David Harbour and Florence Pugh among others, is the first film Marvel has released since the pandemic began and is the production with which Scarlett bids farewell to her character of Natasha after more than a decade playing her in this popular superhero saga.
