'Montero' was released earlier this week.
Lil Nas X bared his most intimate feelings with his debut album, Montero! In a new interview with People, the 22-year-old rapper opened up the challenges of channeling his vulnerability songs like "Sun Goes Down", which addresses his coming out journey.
"To be 100 percent honest, I didn't want to do that song at first", he told the magazine. "I guess it was because I've never done something so personal. I was scared to let people see my vulnerability, because I didn't want them to use it against me."
"But when I released the song, I got messages from people telling me that it saved their life", he continued. "It doesn't feel real quite yet."
Montero, which was released on Friday, not only delves into Lil Nas' past and how things have changed throughout the years but also into what he hopes to achieve in the future.
"You're getting a lot of stories about me", he explained. "You're getting a lot of stories about my past and where I want to be in my love life. But they're also a bop. I feel like I finally found a great balance between being as real as possible within my music and making a hit song."
The Grammy winner also said that, despite having previously revealed that he was in a relationship, his love life has come to a standstill because he wants to focus on his demanding career.
"I'm at this point in my life where I finally realized that I don't want to fall in love", he shared. "I'm so focused on my music career, and love takes a lot of time. It's a lot of responsibility, and I don't think I'm ready to have that extra responsibility on my shoulders right now. When it happens, it's going to happen."
Montero was released on September 17 and consists of 15 tracks, many of which feature music's biggest names —including Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Doja Cat, and more.
