The singer recently welcomed their first chid with boyfriend Alev Aydin.
Halsey is sharing the reason why she had to skip the 2021 Met Gala. After viewers noticed that the they were missing during the popular fashion event, the 26-year-old singer took to social media to explain her absense — revealing in a now-deleted Twitter thread that she had to care for her newborn son, Ender.
"I'm still breastfeeding" Halsey, who welcomed their first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin earlier this year, wrote. "I only had my baby 7 weeks ago. There's nothing more 'American fashion' than moms having to go back to work after just giving birth lol", she added, referencing this year's theme for the event.
The hitmaker later assured fans that she wasn't complaining, only pointing out how much society expects from new moms.
"My only point was people expecting me to be there so soon after having a baby and how it's reflective of a more general social expectation of new moms in far more vulnerable positions", they wrote. "I wasn't complaining at all!!!!"
Halsey added that she only shared her experience to connect with fans as they navigate motherhood and postpartum.
"I know a lot of my fans are parents but more aren’t either and I feel fortunate to share my experiences in a way that can hopefully connect with everyone in their own way. Per usual I’m learning in front of the whole world and I’m trying to do it with grace and composure", she wrote.
"Idk I got leaky hurty boobs, a bloody swollen uterus, and a human being that depends on me as a life force", she continued. "I recognize my privilege every single day and the time it affords me with my baby. but like it or not my body is gonna do what it wants. I'm doing my best to juggle it all!"
Halsey ended by expressing her gratitude for all aspects of her life —including being able to conceive after years of fertility issues and "the blessing" to make art as her job. "But postpartum does not discriminate. That's all I meant to say", she wrote.
In case you missed it, Halsey recently revealed how pregnancy inspired her new album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power.
