The rapper plays Leysa in the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise.
Cardi B was a little bit jumpy about her role in this summer's blockbuster, F9! In a new interview with People, the 28-year-old rapper — who plays Leysa in the film — opened up about working with action heavyweights like Vin Diesel.
"You know Vin Diesel, he always plays this very serious guy", she explained. "I was scared, but he's so nice, so dope, he makes you feel so comfortable, that's pretty cool."
Though the hitmaker was a little nervous at first, the pair ended up becoming good friends while working on the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, which was released earlier this year. According to Cardi, Diesel even congratulated her for her work after filming wrapped.
F9 follows Dom Toretto (Diesel) as he unwillingly returns to the life of crime and fast cars he thought he'd put behind him after his estranged brother Jakob (John Cena) unexpectedly returns as an assasin. Forced to reassemble his best team, Dom confronts his past sins — all the while trying to stop Jakob and save the world.
In addition to Cardi, Diesel and Cena, the film's cast includes Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren, among a slew of others.
F9 — directed by Justin Lin — was originally scheduled to be released in 2019 but got pushed back several times: first due to the release of Hobbs & Shaw and No Time to Die and then for COVID-related reasons. It eventually dropped internationally on May 19, 2021, and in the United States on June 25.
Since its premiere, the film has grossed more than $600 million worldwide.
