The actress also discussed her upcoming role in 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye'.
Jessica Chastain is not afraid to admit she's obsessed with fashion! In her cover story for L'Officiel's fall issue, the 44-year-old actress reflected on her favorite red carpet looks and spoke out against people who criticize fashionistas for being vain.
"I do have an issue with people blaming women for having a ton of shoes, or too many clothes — come on", she said. "If someone wants to look fabulous, let them look fabulous. Let them express themselves in whatever way they want to. If they want to wear a pound of makeup, let them do it. If they want to wear wigs, let them do it."
Chastain added that she sees fashion "and glam as a form of self-expression".
The Oscar nominee went on to describe how fashion helps her with anxiety. "I love fashion because—and this is a strange thing to say—I'm very sensitive, and I can get overstimulated", she explained. "I don't know how to describe it, but each outfit that I have the opportunity to wear makes me feel like a different kind of woman."
As much as she loves lavish fashion, Chastain also stated that she didn't quite enjoy getting all dressed up for her upcoming movie, The Eyes of Tammy Baye, in which she plays the late televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker.
For her role, the actress had to wear heavy makeup, prosthetics and wigs. She previously stated that spending so many hours in the makeup chair had likely damaged her skin. "Honestly, I’m probably never going to do that again. It was pretty anxiety-ridden for me", she told L'Officiel of the process of transforming into Bakker.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye details the early lives of Bakker and her husband Jim (Andrew Garfield), from humble preachers to building the world's largest religious broadcasting network. However, their image of love and acceptance came tumbling down when Jim was indicted, convicted and imprisoned on numerous counts of fraud and conspiracy in 1989.
The film will be released in theaters on September 17.
